It still amazes us that we service and MOT our cars on an annual basis (and this is not cheap!) yet we fail to regularly visit medical professionals for health checks until something goes wrong.
“Prehab” is a term used to describe how you look after yourself in order to avoid injuries in the first place. The most common mistake that people make is that Physiotherapy should only be used after an injury. Like any good physiotherapy service, one of our main aims is to focus on preventing primary or secondary injuries before they happen.
First we give you a health MOT and assess for any loss of range of movement, muscle imbalance, muscle tightness, lack of flexibility etc. We can then help you draw up an exercise program or give you advice about what to do next and how to avoid any injuries that might be brewing.
Everyone. Every age. Every physical ability. You don’t need to be an athlete to benefit from this. Everyone can certainly benefit. A bit like a car, it doesn’t matter how old, what brand or when you purchased it, you simply need to ensure it’s safe on the road every year.
That is completely up to you but here is what we recommend as a guide:
-For people with no obvious injuries, book a physio MOT once a year.
-For people with age related conditions like Osteoarthritis, once every two months.
-For athletes who are competing, have regular rehab sessions once a week for at least 4 weeks up until you compete.
-For regular gym goers, once a month would be ideal.
